Women aged 19, 24 and 36 taken to hospital after assault in Porte de Clichy area in north of capital
A French off-duty police officer has detained a man after he attacked and wounded three women with two kitchen knives in Paris on Monday.
Three women aged 19, 24 and 36 were taken to hospital after the assault at about 11.30am (0930 GMT) in the Porte de Clichy area in the north of the capital, said the interior minister, Laurent Nuñez.
Two had been gravely wounded but their lives were not in danger, Nuñez said. One had been injured in the lower back; the other in the abdomen.
“The perpetrator was apprehended by an off-duty police officer,” Nuñez said.
The identity of the suspect and his motive were not immediately clear. Nuñez said he had made “incoherent statements”, but the minister advised against jumping to conclusions on the man’s motives.
On Saturday, an Islamist radical ploughed a rented minivan into a Pride parade in Berlin, killing one woman and wounding 29.
