Wildfire spreads in southeastern France as firefighters battle blaze

A Canadair water bomber drops water while fighting wildfires in the Var region

Firefighting aircrafts and helicopters were deployed to tackle a fast-moving wildfire in France's Var department as extreme heat fuelled the blaze.

The fire, which broke out near Les Arcs, had spread across around 200 hectares, destroying several homes and vehicles.

Authorities ordered evacuations in parts of Cotignac and Sillans-la-Cascade, urging residents to leave threatened areas and avoid obstructing emergency operations.

Météo-France warned temperatures in the region could exceed 40°C, raising concerns that the fire could continue to spread.

Euronews correspondents are reporting from the affected areas.
